...Defending your right to pay a speeding ticket:
The [Tennessee Bureau of Investigation] is investigating Coopertown Mayor Danny Crosby's actions in blocking a motorist from exercising his right to pay a speeding ticket.

The motorist, T. Allen Morgan of Nashville, attempted to pay a traffic fine with a check. On the check, he wrote "for speed trap" in bold letters, with stars drawn out around the words.

Crosby refused the check, insisting that Morgan appear to face the charges in traffic court, or write another check without the words "speed trap" on it.
Not to get too serious, but from a legal perspective "speed trap" is neither profane nor obscene nor in any way "offensive" to a reasonable person (or least to a reasonable non-mayor). Furthermore, a public official certainly has a fiduciary duty to his constituents not to frivolously hinder the collection of monies due the jurisdiction.

But heck, mayors are always benevolent dictators public servants, right?
