Thank Goodness for Small Miracles
---
Bloomberg not to run for New York governor ever.
Santorum not to run for president in 2008. (UPDATE: Never mind.)
If you missed Santorum on The Daily Show Monday night, then you should definitely see the repeat Tuesday night at 11:30 ET. The hypocrisy and irrationality of the man's anti-gay bigotry is truly astounding. He spent most of the interview playing the tired — and invalid — "it's all about the children" card for his opposition to gay marriage, but folded like a cheap suit when asked about liberal heterosexual divorce laws and other contradictions in his viewpoint. The only disappointment was how "kid gloves" Jon Stewart was with him.
As for Bloomberg, he has pulled yet another election-year rabbit out of his hat, timing the repeal of New York City's clothing tax to fall remarkably close to Election Day. For a chronicle of his previous election-year maneuvering, see my previous post. Lower taxes are always welcome, but how unfortunate that they have to come in a naked effort to buy votes.
