A Stitch in Haste

A Stitch in Time Saves Nine...But Haste Makes Waste

These schmucks picked the wrong day to generate negative externalities in my neighborhood:

To give perspective, "down" (i.e., east) is a dead end, so all the cars below the crane and flatbed (including two parking garages) were cut off for about seven hours. I saw at least one car driving up the (increasingly snow-covered) sidewalk on the right side of the picture (i.e., between the trees and the pillars). Brilliant.

The building receiving the infrastructure delivery gave no notice to the other buildings on my block of their intentions.

And of course, they don't have to. New Yorkers learn quickly that anyone can shut down any part of this city anytime they want for as long as they want-- as long as they're willing to buy enough permits to do so. (I actually prefer the more intellectually honest term that the Catholic Church used in the Middle Ages -- "indulgences.")

I know that's not the same as "bribery," but I'm not sure why.

Hope they bundled up...

POST SCRIPT: Words have meaning, especially "state of emergency." Unfortunately, the meaning those words have nowadays is "FEMA money." So of course New Jersey's Acting Governor is using this blizzard as an excuse to declare a state of emergency for all of New Jersey -- because of a foot or two of snow on a weekend. And they called McGreevey "scandalous"?

Pathetic.
