County Results Suggest District Method Landslide
(Why aren't you reading this at the new website?)

---
Both Outside the Beltway and Vodkapundit have the election map by county. The dwindling amount of blue, not only from the statewide 2004 map but also the 2000 county map, is truly stunning.

More interesting to me, however, is this: The county results suggest that, had the District Method of allocating electoral votes been used nationwide, President Bush would likely have received a significant landslide victory. He would likely have picked up a huge number of votes, primarily in California and Pennsylvania but also in several other blue states, while losing significantly only from Florida, Illinois and Ohio. To review, had the District Method been used in 2000, Bush would have received 18 more electoral votes (i.e., 289-248), and Florida 2000 would not have happened.

It would be fascinating to determine at what point during Election Night 2004 Bush would have passed 270 under the District Method. I'm not sure the data exist to find out, but it almost certainly would have been Tuesday night rather than Wednesday morning.

I'll provide the exact numbers once the think tanks churn them out.
